External insulation: which French subsidies in 2026?
MaPrimeRénov', energy saving certificates, reduced VAT: a review of the aid available for external wall insulation, and the traps to avoid.
External thermal insulation remains one of the most effective energy renovation works: it treats the walls, the biggest heat loss after the roof, and renews the facade in the same project.
Good news: several subsidies remain available in 2026. MaPrimeRénov' for owner-occupiers and landlords, energy saving certificates (CEE) paid by energy suppliers, reduced VAT, and in some municipalities complementary local grants.
The conditions that matter
Amounts depend on your income, the performance achieved and the insulated surface. Two conditions always apply: using an RGE-qualified company, and reaching a minimum thermal resistance, generally R ≥ 3.7 for walls.
Beware of offers that look too good: one-euro schemes are gone, and aggressive cold calling often hides poor workmanship. A serious quote details the insulant, its thickness, the treatment of details and the schedule.
